The Music Program at St. Mark’s

includes:

 

. . . the Chancel Choir, high school and adult singers who rehearse Thursday evenings from 7:30 until 9:00 P.M.. This Choir sings at the 10:00 A.M. Sunday service, and presents music for several special services and events throughout the year.

 

. . . the Handbell Choir. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 6:15 until 7:25 P.M.. This group presents  music occasionally at the 8:00 and 10:00 A.M. Sunday services.

 

. . . the Handbell Ensemble, for  advanced bell ringers, who prepare music played by a trio or quartet of ringers. This group rehearses and presents music occasionally.

 

. . . the Taizé Choir. This Choir leads the singing for our Taizé services and rehearses the Thursday before each Taizé service beginning at  8:45 P.M. as well as before the  service. This group is open to anyone who likes to sing.

 

. . . the Taizé Instrumentalists. Any instrumentalist is invited to join in leading the music for our Taizé   services. Please contact Peggy Evans for more information.

 

  

We invite your contributions to the St. Cecilia Society which helps fund this series

as well as special needs in the music area throughout the year.

 

Special Concerts

All events are free of charge.

 

 

Sunday, Sept. 23, 3:00 P.M.

 Terra Nova Consort

A concert by the resident musical ensemble of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, with guest artist Shira Kammen, presenting "The Song That Never Ends," music of Galicia, the extreme northwestern corner of Spain.

 

Sunday, Oct. 14, 3:00 P.M.

Beth Baker and friends, by ticket only.

Former St. Mark's parishioner, Beth Baker, has a resume that lists 30 years of stage work  from California to New York. Since moving to Medford she has presented several shows to benefit local causes. Attendance at this event will be by free ticket only, given first to St. Cecilia donors and parishioners. Any additional tickets will be available in the church office beginning the week before the concert. At the concert we will take monetary donations to benefit the Family Nurturing Center.

 

Sunday, Oct. 21, 3:00 P.M.

Violin Recital, Larry Stubson, violin, and Laurie Hunter, piano            

The program includes sonatas by Brahms, Schumann, and Grieg.

 

Sunday, Nov. 18, 3:00 P.M.

Solemn High Eucharist, with the Haydn "Little" Organ Mass

Sung  by the Chancel Choir and strings, along with a Buxtehude cantata to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the composer's death, featuring Marian Horton, soprano, and conducted by Dr. Margaret R. Evans.

Taizé Service for Advent

 

Sunday, Dec. 16: 3:00 P.M.

A Service of Advent Lessons and Carols with the St. Mark's Choirs,

conducted by Dr. Margaret R. Evans. Our traditional service of Advent readings includes choir carols, and congregational hymns reflecting on the meaning of Advent and the coming birth of Christ.

 

Friday, Dec. 28, 7:30 P.M.

Kirsten Boldt, bassoon, and friends

The sixth annual concert by Ms. Boldt will include several guest artists performing music for bassoon plus other instruments.

 

Monday, Dec. 31, 7:00 P.M.

Concert for New Year's Eve 

Approximately 9:00 PM: Night Prayer Service for the New Year.  This concert featuring musicians from the Rogue Valley and beyond, including Kirsten Boldt, Laurie Hunter, Christian Mathisen, Barbara Evans O'Donnell, Martin Prelle-Tworek, and Margaret R. Evans, presenting various styles of music for a variety of instruments. We'll have a gala reception following the concert, and then have the Service of Night Prayer for the New Year, from the New Zealand Prayer Book.

Friday, Feb. 22, 8 P.M.

Affabre Concinui   (The Polish Chamber Singers):

This 6-man acappella singing group presents a variety of music from sacred pieces in Polish to orchestral masterworks. Founded in 1983, the ensemble has performed throughout the world at various festivals. They have also recorded over 300 works on CD. The name of the group is Latin for "perfectly attuned," the artistic goal of the group.

A Wedding Concert

 Musicians from Colorado, West Virginia, and elsewhere, including members of the Apollo Chamber Brass, present pieces for brass quintet, mezzo-soprano, alto, organ, and other combinations. This will be a gala event, not to be missed!

 

 

Taizé Services

These are quiet services of meditation, reflection, readings, silence, prayer, candlelight,

and musical chants from the Taizé tradition, focusing on themes of each season.
