Greetings on the Third Sunday in Lent, our continuing journey of reflection and understanding of God’s presence in the world.

Our invitation to worship recognizes that our power is incapable of saving us, rather that God’s power protects us. Our first lesson from Exodus recounts Israel’s grumbling in the wilderness of Sin that God was abandoning them and not providing for their need. The psalmist offers a song as a reminder that God is all-powerful and should be worshipped because God is God. The reading from Paul’s letter to the Romans recounts a truth, that God’s grace is what saves us and that God understands human plight through Jesus. The reading from John’s gospel tells the story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well and all that comes from their interaction and how lives are changed.

As our Lenten journey continues, we hear the real-life stories of salvation based on and connection through Jesus’ presence in our world. We are reminded that it is God’s power that saves and, when left to our devices, we might exclude ourselves of someone else from the good news story of lives being changed. While we are convinced that we know the entirety of God’s story and God’s presence in another’s life, we need to recognize God works with and through the unassuming and unnamed people in society more than the powerful celebrities who demand attention. Scripture helps us remember that each person is an important part of God’s family and witness of God’s grace.

To whom are we invited to open our hearts to hear their witness to God or to understand their need for the good news found through Jesus? I invite your comments,
Les+
